Royal stars Michael Cybulski and Nicole Blood were selected at the Star Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Michael became the first Ventura County boy’s track athlete in 84 years to win the State 3,200 championship back to back. Nicole broke a 24 year old record for the girl’s 1600 and was also selected to the 3,200 First Team. Joining Mike on the Star First Team was Kevin Sullivan in the 1,600. Royal teammates Hudson Andrews in the 800, Curtis Marsh for the Long Jump, and Evan Meikle for the Discus were honored on the Second Team. Joining Nicole on the Star First Team was Simi Valley’s Anna Sperry for the 800 and the Second Team for the 1,600.

Simi Valley’s Anna Sperry and Royal’s Mike Cybulski run away with CIF Southern Section Titles. Anna Sperry broke the 5 year old Division II meet record in the 1,600. She also placed second in the 3,200 in school record time.
Defending State Champion Mike Cybulski broke his own school record repeating as Division I champion in the 3,200.
Other local’s doing well and qualifying for the Master’s included Royal’s Nicole Blood in the 1,600 and 3,200; Royal’s Kevin Sullivan in the 1,600; and Royal’s Hudson Andrews in the 800.

The Royal tracksters’ advanced to CIF-SS Division I Championships. Highlander Curtis Marsh led all long jumpers with a personal best jump and the counties best of the year. Teammates Michael Cybulski was the fastest qualifier in the 3,200 and Hudson Andrews had the top time in the 800 meter runs. Kevin Sullivan and Jun Reichl advanced in the 1,600. Jason Pederson is the first alternate in the 3,200. On the girls side Highlander Nicole Blood was the top qualifier in the 1,600 and 3,200. Teammate Kelcie Wiemann also qualified in the 3,200. At the CIF-SS Division II Championship Prelims, Simi Valley’s Anna Sperry won the 3,200 and placed 3rd in the 1,600 to qualify for the championship. Read about it here.

The Royal boys’ do well at Marmonte League Championship. Highlander Phillip Burks won the 400 meter race and finished third in the triple jump; Hudson Andrews won the 800 meter; Michael Cybulski won the 1,600 meter with teammate Kevin Sullivan second; Cybulski also won the 3,200 meter race with teammate Jason Pederson second; Curtis Marsh finished second in the 100 and 200 meter races and the long jump; Evan Meikle was second in the discus; and the Royal 4x100 relay team finished second.

The Royal and Simi Valley girls’ have success at the Marmonte League Championships. Royal’s Nicole Blood won both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter races; Simi Valleys’ Anna Sperry won the 800 meter race and was second in both the 1,600 and the 3,200 meter races; Royal’s Hannah Brockert finished third in the 800. Royal’s Kelcie Wiemann was third in the 3,200 meter. Simi Valley’s Kaila Clarke was second in the high jump with Royal’s Holly Willard third; the Royal 4x100 relay team finished third.

Royal and Simi Valley Preps do very well at the Ventura County Track and Field Championships. On the boys side: Hudson Andrews (Royal) finished first in the 800; Kevin Sullivan (Royal) in the 1,600; Michael Cybulski and Jason Pedersen (both from Royal) went first and third; Curtis Marsh (Royal) finished second in the long jump; and Evan Meikle (Royal) was second in the Discus.
For the girls: Anna Sperry (Simi Valley) finished first in the 800 and second in the 3,200; Nicole Blood (Royal) finished first in the 1,600 and the 3,200; Kelcie Wiemann (Royal) was second in the 1,600; Sabrina Conway (Royal) was third in the long jump; Holly Willard (Royal) finished second and Kaila Clarke (Simi Valley) third in the high jump; and the Royal girls finished second in the 4x800 team relay.

The Royal boys’ track team won a dual meet against Agoura (101-35) and Westlake (81-55). Highlander Mike Cybulski won the 1,600 and 3,200 races and finished second in the 800. Curtis Marsh won the 200 and the long jump. Code Ubelhardt won the high jump and Philip Burks the Triple Jump.
The Royal girls’ track team also won their dual meet against Agoura (82-54) and Westlake (96-40). Nicole Blood won the 3,200 in school record time of 10:49.31. Nicole also won the 1,600. Jade Anderson bettered her school record in the pole vault, clearing 9-3 ¼.Holly Willard won the high jump and Sabrina Conway the long jump. Celeste Sage won the triple jump.

Royal continues its hot hand at the Mount San Antonio College Relays in Walnut. For the second straight week, Royal runners produced a nation-leading relay time. The Highlanders won the Distance Relay with a time of 10:08.65. Kevin Sullivan ran the 1,200 leg in 3:8.4, Tyler Newmann the 400 leg in 50.8, Hudson Andrews the 800 leg in 1:55.3, and anchor Michael Cybulski ran the 1,600 in 4:14.1.
Royal’s Nicole Blood won the girls’ invitational mile run at the relays. Highlander Phillip Burks won the boy’s open Triple Jump.
Royal also won the 4x1mile relay. The Highlander’s produced the fastest high school 4x1 mile relay time in 20 years last week at Arcadia.

At the Arcadia Invitational with over 500 schools from 24 states represented, Royal distance runners won the “Burnin Batons” relays. The Highlanders 4-mile relay team consists of Jun Reichl, Hudson Andrews, Kevin Sullivan and Michael Cybulski (the State 3,200 meter Champion). In the second leg Andrews, trailing by 15 yards, closed the gap and enabling the team to win by more than 50 yards.
Royal’s Curtis Marsh won the meet “Open” boys long jump event with a leap of 22 feet 9¼ inches.
At the Arcadia Invitational Simi Valley’s Anna Sperry set a school record in winning the 3,200 meter race. Sperry bested the old record by 15 seconds completing the race in 10 minutes, 52.62 seconds.
Royal’s Nicole Blood won the 800 and 1,600 events. Teammate Katherine Saunders won the 300 hurdles and was second in the 100 hurdles. Simi Valley’s Anna Sperry won the 3,200 run and was second in the 1,600. Pioneer teammate Kaila Clarke was the high jump.
Royal’s Curtis Marsh won the 100, 200 and long jump events. Teammate Shane Begley won the shot put and Discus throws. Simi Valley’s Kevin Ross was runner-up in the triple jump.

Highly ranked Royal boys beat Moorpark, 78-58. Highlander Mike Cybulski posted the counties fastest time this season in the 3,200 (9:11.07). Curtis Marsh won the 200 run and long jump. Hudson Andrews won the 800.
The Royal gals were beaten by Moorpark, 88-48. Highlander highlights included Kelcie Wiemann winning the 1,600 and Rebecca Albarran taking the 3,200.
The Simi Valley boys lost to Thousand Oaks and Westlake in a tri-meet.
The Simi Valley girls beat Westlake and lost to Thousand Oaks in a Tri-meet. Pioneer highlights included Anna Sperry winning the 800, 1,600 and the 3,200 runs. Kaila Clarke won the high jump.

At the Santa Barbara Easter Relays, Royal’s Mike Cybulski and Kevin Sullivan were second and third in the 1,500 meter. Hudson Anderson was second in the 3,000. The Royal runners finished first in the distance medley.
On the girls’ side, Simi Valley’s Anna Sperry won the 3,000 race. Royal’s Kelcie Wiemann was second in the 3,000.
