Royal’s Kevin Dunn, CIF Champion, named as the Star’s Wrestler of the Year. Teammates Mike Dicato, 171 pound standout, also named to the All-County Star First Team, while Miguel Rivera, 215 pound, was honored on the Second Team. Simi Valleys Dan Stoner and Matt Bruno were also honored on the Star Second Team.

Simi Valley pined Newbury Park, 67-6.  Chris Barr, Travis Burchfield, Jeff Chuang, Isiah Tureaud, Jon Hamm and Mason Mullett all recorded pins for the Pioneers. Mikey Murphy won his match.   Simi Valley is 5-1 in Marmonte League action.

Royal downed Moorpark, 54-18.  Highlander’s Gerald Figueroa, Kevin Dunn, Jason Hambel, Franky Beinz, Jon Quezada, Ryan Brown and Miguel Rivera each pinned their opponent. Royal is 6-0 in Marmonte League matches.

The Simi Valley boys wrestling team placed third in the San Fernando Tournament.  Mike Murphy pulled a big upset over Calabasas’s Tyler Tietelamn (ranked 7th in the state) in the 125-pound championship match.  Jimmie Moore was 2nd in the 171-pound class. Chris Barr placed 3rd in the 103-pound class. Nathan Mullett also placed 3rd in the heavyweights’.

Royal’s Jade Anderson won the 132-pound title at the CIF Southern Regional Girls’ Wrestling Tournament.

The Simi Valley boys downed Moorpark 48-23.  Chris Barr pinned his opponent in 30 seconds.  Jeff Chuang, Mikey Murphy, John Zimbardo, Matt Bruno, Shawn Munson, and Nathan Mullett each scored pins to win their match.
